In 1976 the Pak Mei Pai Chinese
Martial Arts School (白眉派武館)
has been founded by the late sifu Jie Kon Sieuw (余官秀).
The Chinese Martial Art of Pak Mei Boxing as taught by sifu Jie
Kon Sieuw is being taught in the Netherlands, Belgium and United
States.
Pak Mei means in Chinese "white eyebrow". Pak Mei
is also written as Pack Mee, Pak Mi (Hakka pinjim), Bai Mei (hanyu
pinyin), Baak Mei (jyutping) and Pai Mei. This traditional Chinese
Martial Art has been named after a 18th century the monk Pak
Mei (白眉)who developed
his style from boxing techniques he had learned in the southern
Siu Lam Temple (南少林寺).
Pak Mei Pai has the character of southern Siu Lam Boxing
(南少林拳) and contains for instance;
self-defense, conditioning drills/lin gung (練功 lian
gong), kum-na (qin na 擒拿) teaching in the classical
Chinese weapons like kwandao (關刀), staff (棍),
sword(單刀) , butterfly knives (蝴蝶雙刀),
big fork (大耙) etc. From the Hakka
(kejia 客家) heritage lessons are given in the Unicorn/
Kie Lin dance (舞麒麟).
After sifu Jie Kon Sieuw passed
away in 2001 his students continued his teachings at his schools.
A new association was founded and on advise of the Pak Mei family
in Tai Kei Leng Yuen Long Hongkong (大旗嶺元朗香港)
the new name became "Jie Kon Sieuw Tong Hok Fui" (余官秀同學會).
The Jie Kon Sieuw Students Association is teaching Pak Mei from
the heritage of Sifu Jie Kon Sieuw and is in this way promoting
and preserving his Pak Mei. The Jie Kon Sieuw Students Association
has an experienced lion dance team (舞獅)
that is participating in national and international competitions
and demonstrations.
The lion dance team is every year present during the Chinese
New Year (過年) celebrations.
Also at traditional Chinese festivities, like weddings or the
opening of shops, the lion dance team can
frequently be seen.
